Since 2001, Type 1 Kidz (T1KZ), the Diabetes Group has been working to improve the lives of young diabetics throughout the North East of England.

We have improved clinical services, given presentations at national conferences, met MP’s and run peer mentoring courses, as well as gaining national recognition and several awards for the work we do.

T1KZ is a support group for children and young people with type 1 diabetes. The Type 1 Kidz programme is designed and delivered by young people and over time has transformed the services for those that live with the condition.

This project has now spread to Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland & Chester-le-Street, additional groups are being planned for 2022 and beyond.
