Young Directors

As a member of the IiC board of Directors, the young directors help to make the decisions which affect every member of IiC. They are the glue that binds the board to the rest of the IiC organisation and brings the two entities together.

As a Young Director we also support the Decisions group within the organisation (The group that shapes and steers IiC) and makes sure that young people’s ideas from this group feed into the board so the organisation is working the best it can be.

Our current Young Directors are: Bethany Barnett and Jade Hay. Meet our directors below.

Bethany Barnett

Hello, my name is Bethany and I'm currently a sixth form student studying A level biology, chemistry and psychology. I've been involved with Investing in Children since I was 12 years old so it means a lot to me to now be a young director for an organisation I care greatly for and that means so much to me!

I've been involved in lots of groups with Investing in Children, a lot of my work has focused around mental health and I also enjoy helping out with other groups and helping with running reviews and agenda days. In my spare time when I'm not studying I enjoy doing judo - a martial art, reading and spending time with my family and friends.

In the future I hope to go to university and study dietetics, a course that looks at food and our diets in relation to our physical health. A few facts about me include: I love animals (especially cats), I collect cactuses and my favourite place to visit would either be the beach or an aquarium.

Jade Hay

I have been actively been involved with Investing in Children for 7 years. When I was younger I started attending the Children in Care Council to talk about how I felt being in care. Since then I have been involved in nearly every project going! As a young director I have taken part in most groups, making sure that all young people involved in Investing in Children get a chance to have their voice heard.

I personally have grown so much. The team, especially Rob have helped me come on such a long way. I have had some amazing opportunities which I would never had if not for Investing in Children. This year alone I have visited parliament, spoke at the Durham Women’s Gala, went to Scotland to take part in a conference with leaders from local authorities and Strathclyde University, I have also worked with Liverpool and Edinburgh University.

I have just started New College Durham on an access course and will hopefully start university next September – so watch this space!

Liam Bell

Hey I'm Liam! I've been working with Investing in Children for a number of years now. As part of my work with IIC, I have been involved with a number of projects including a Sweden and Norway training exchange, project work and I have even been involved in presenting evidence to the High Commissioner of Human Rights from the United Nations thanks to IIC! IIC has taught me a number of life lessons and I have made so many friends. They have also supported me in getting to the confidence level to do my dream job working for the police. As a young director I am open to people contacting me to discuss anything they want taking to the board or to discuss any issues. Contact Chloe for info on decisions group.
