Decisions Group

Overview

Children and young people from across Investing in Children come together to take an active role in shaping the organisation. By working collaboratively, they contribute to important discussions and help make key decisions that influence the direction and future of Investing in Children as a whole.

Funding Source

This work is supported through internal funding within Investing in Children, enabling projects and opportunities that centre the voices of children and young people. This funding ensures their ideas, experiences, and contributions continue to shape and strengthen the organisation’s work.

Impact

The group has contributed to a wide range of work, including the Investing in Children Annual Review. This takes place each year and involves The Decisions Group visiting all other projects to speak directly with children and young people.

These conversations ensure that everyone has the opportunity to share their views and provide feedback about their groups. The ideas and suggestions gathered are then shared with the wider team and the Board of Trustees, helping to shape future plans and guide the ongoing development of the organisation.

Engagement and Outcomes

The group has been involved in a range of impactful projects, including updating young people’s social accounting sheets, training participants to become Media Leaders, and reviewing Investing in Children’s social media.

They have also played an important role in shaping the future of the organisation by contributing ideas and feedback to help design our new building, The Elms.

Recent Activity

April 2026

The group reviewed young people’s social accounting forms, exploring new and improved ways to gather this important information. These ideas are currently being developed and will be introduced soon.

They also reviewed the Investing in Children website, suggesting a range of improvements, including the use of more up-to-date photos. These changes are now being implemented, and the young people hope you enjoy the refreshed and more current look of the website.

During this session, the group explored the role of Peer Mentors and how they can provide support to others within group sessions. New roles and ideas were developed and are now being introduced to strengthen this approach.

The group also continued to review Investing in Children’s social media presence, considering how it can be used more effectively and how new ideas can be implemented moving forward.

The group explored their priorities and what they would like to focus on throughout 2026, helping to shape the direction of their work for the year ahead.

They also began planning for the move into our new building, The Elms, sharing ideas on how this exciting milestone can be celebrated together.

Alongside this, the group took part in Christmas team-building activities, strengthening relationships and celebrating their achievements as a team.
